JOB QUALIFICATIONS:  

Minimum Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s Degree Preferred
  • Hold a valid Texas certificate
  • Reading Specialization Preferred
  • Valid Texas driver’s license

JOB DESCRIPTION:  

Primary Purpose: The person in this position will be responsible for providing expertise in reading/language arts. Program implementation and monitoring and reading/language arts staff development for grades Pre-K – 5. The person will also offer leadership in reading/language arts curriculum areas including efforts to insure focus, coordination and accountability of the reading/language arts curriculum.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Instructional Management

  1. Provide constructive feedback on the effectiveness of the reading/language arts instructional program on assigned campuses.
  2. Serve as professional model for effective reading/language arts teaching on assigned campuses.
  3. Work collaboratively to deliver exemplary instruction to all students in areas of reading/language arts.
  4. Support the implementation of the District curriculum in reading/language arts.

School/Organization Improvement/Climate

  1. Support core trainings that are necessary for all teachers.
  2. Plan, facilitate, present and/or evaluate staff development programs for reading/language arts.
  3. Assist in campus improvement planning process.
  4. Respond to staff requests for training such as lesson modeling, targeted strategies, mentoring, etc.
  5. Attend and, if appropriate, facilitate content specific meetings in reading/language arts areas.
  6. Work collaboratively with building principal in the selection and ordering the appropriate reading/language arts materials for the campuses.
  7. Target At-Risk students and implement appropriate reading/language arts strategies to provide assistance to classroom teachers.
  8. Provide and assist small group instruction for At-Risk students.
  9. Provide and demonstrate model lesson for teachers.
  10. Mentor teachers needing additional assistance in implementing reading/language arts instruction.

Professional Growth and Development

  1. Maintain active participation in reading/language arts associations at the state levels.
  2. Attend trainings and stay current on content and strategies in reading/language arts.
  3. Other duties as assigned by supervisor or designee.

 

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:  

Minimum Experience:

  • Three years of teaching experience
